We are a theologically conservative Southern Baptist church, striving to be relevant in our ministry to today’s people, while holding to the doctrines of conservative, evangelical Christianity. Our Purpose -- Mission We believe that our God-given mission is to glorify God by making fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20). From a biblical perspective, it is clear that a fully devoted disciple is not gauged by how much Bible information a person has or how committed a person is to the activities within a local church. The New Testament focuses more in terms of transformation than information. Clearly, some information is needed to aid in the transformation of character and conduct , but transformation is the goal. (cf. Rom 12:1-2; 2 Cor 5:14). The vision of CBC is to be a transformed community of Christ’s disciples who play a transforming role in the entire region and beyond. As we become increasingly like Christ in our thoughts, speech, actions and relationships, we will seek out those who are lost and estranged from God. By God’s grace and in His power, we will share the life-changing message of the gospel, then teach and equip those who come to faith in Christ so that they will become fully devoted disciples of Christ—in order for them to reproduce that process in another person.
The ministries of CBC are organized in five functional divisions—outreach, education, worship, congregational care, and administration—to help us play a transforming role in our society by: Evangelizing non-believers by the gospel of Jesus Christ, encouraging them to respond in faith and become members of God’s family; Establishing these members in their faith by providing opportunities for them to GROW: G ive worship to God, R eceive instruction from the Bible, O btain biblical fellowship, and W alk in personal spiritual disciplines, thus growing in Christ-like maturity; and Equipping the mature believers in ministry skills so that they can become ministers by serving and evangelizing the church, community and world. Our Principle Beliefs -- Statement of Faith Our Philosophy of Ministry Our People -- Leadership Our church is led by a plurality of elders (which include lay elders as well as staff elders, pastors of the church). The elders develop and oversee the strategy and mission of the church. Staff members are called to execute the strategy and mission of a particular division of ministry, outreach, education, worship, congregational care, and administration. Under the auspices of the elders, deacons are in charge of serving in various ministry teams in accordance with their gifts and talents. The ministry of each division is carried out through ministry teams comprised of elders, deacons, staff and congregation members. (see Philosophy of Ministry for more detail.) Our Past We’ve just celebrated our 50th Anniversary with a rich history of God’s blessings.
